Lidl will double down on its loyalty efforts in the year ahead, after a significant rise in memberships to its Lidl Plus programme helped drive sales and footfall last year.
In its latest financial results released today (05 Oct 2026), the Discounter posted double-digit revenue growth of +10.8% to £13billion, while operating profit for the financial year ending 28 Feb 2026 also increased to £345million.
“Our performance is a clear testament to the trust that millions of customers place in us every week,” said Ryan McDonnell, CEO of Lidl GB. “As we grow, our focus doesn’t shift – we’re constantly investing in low prices, high quality and maximum value for customers.”
Lidl said the recent growth had been driven by “strategic investments in price, store expansion and digital innovation.” It also attributed customer switching to its success, estimating that it had won £650million+ directly from competitors.
With recent American Express data showing 9 in 10 Brits are now members of a loyalty programme as reward habits become embedded in buying behaviours, Lidl also said loyalty had played a key role in its results.
McDonnell said Lidl Plus had resonated “fantastically well” with customers and that the retailer was also seeing its loyalty scheme appearing in switching data. “Listening to our customers and investing to improve the retail experience is what we’re about,” he added.
Lidl Plus saw a +23% increase in users in the past year, helping drive switching and footfall – in the last 12months Lidl said it drew an additional 43million shopping trips.
Looking ahead, innovation around its Lidl Plus loyalty programme will remain a key focus for 2026, and will see the Discounter “significantly increase investment” in the scheme, including a 60% rise in funding for personalised coupons and further roll out of Lidl & Go, its self-scanning service.
Earlier this year, Lidl extended Lidl & Go self-scanning to a further 37 UK stores across the South East, South of England and Scotland, following an initial seven-store pilot. Integrated with the Lidl Plus app, Lidl & Go allows customers to scan products as they shop before completing purchases seamlessly at the checkout.
