Sainsbury’s has unveiled SmartLists, a new AI-powered way to shop within the Sainsbury’s app, which helps customers plan their shops, create shopping lists, locate products in-store and manage budgets using Nectar Prices.

The new feature allows customers to create shopping lists by typing or taking a photo of what they need, which is matched to Sainsbury’s products, including Nectar Prices, with items added directly to online baskets.

In-store, an in-built Product Finder helps customers locate items, designed to make shopping easier for customers, whilst freeing colleagues’ time to focus on customer service and support.

“We know our customers are busy and want shopping to feel simple, joyful and easy to fit around their lives,” Ben Edge, Director of Product at Sainsbury’s, commented. “SmartLists is designed to take the effort out of creating and buying a shopping list, whether customers are typing, speaking or taking a picture of what they need.”

As part of the wider Sainsbury’s app upgrade, Smartshop has been integrated into the newly unified Sainsbury’s app to simplify shopping journeys. The app now brings together online orders, ChopChop, SmartLists, In-store SmartShop and Nectar, letting customers access Sainsbury’s on a single platform without needing to switch.

“By bringing more of our services together in one app, we’re making it easier for customers to plan their shop, build their basket and find products in store, however and whenever they choose to shop with us,” Edge added.
