Lincolnshire Co-op has worked with The Barcode Warehouse to roll out a new self-checkout (SCO) solution to give customers greater choice and convenience at the point of purchase.

The new SCO will offer shoppers greater flexibility in how they complete purchases as well as helping stores increase checkout capacity. It will also improve customer flow and help manage queues more effectively during busy trading periods.

Operating more than 220 outlets, Lincolnshire Co-op is expanding its SCO options across its Food store estate as part of its ongoing investment in enhancing customer experience.

Andy Warman, Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer at Lincolnshire Co-op, said that the move “represents an important step in enhancing the shopping experience for customers.”

“This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to continuing to deliver high standards of customer service and embracing innovation technology that adds value for our communities,” he added.

The project with The Barcode Warehouse has seen it install SCO units across 74 Lincolnshire Co-op Food stores, with a further 21 stores set for deployment later this year.

“Retailers are increasingly looking at how technology can remove friction from the shopping journey while helping stores operate more efficiently,” Jason Datt, Head of Retail at The Barcode Warehouse, commented.

“Self-checkout has become an important part of that balance, giving customers greater choice and convenience while helping colleagues focus on delivering excellent service where it’s needed most.“

The SCO rollout is the latest stage in Lincolnshire Co-op’s partnership with The Barcode Warehouse, which has supported the retailer’s in-store tech estate for over three years, including across its POS and handheld devices for stock management and pricing updates.

“Through our long-standing relationship with Lincolnshire Co-op, we’ve been able to support the rollout of a self-checkout solution that not only enhances the customer experience but also provides the flexibility and scalability needed to support future store innovation,” Datt added.
