Morrisons has appointed former Kingfisher exec, Dr. Mohsen Ghasempour, as its Chief AI Officer, a newly created role which will focus on leveraging the technology to drive growth, CX and efficiency across the business.
An experienced technology leader, Ghasempour joins from Kingfisher where he was Chief AI Officer, leading the team which built and scaled Kingfisher’s AI function in its European operations. Prior to that, he held senior technology roles at The Hut Group and also holds a PHD in computer science in addition to his proven track record of driving AI innovation at enterprise-scale.
In this newly created role, Ghasempour will establish a central data science and AI function for Morrisons, which will take overall responsibility for the supermarket’s Data and AI strategy. This will focus on customer growth through empowering colleagues, driving operational efficiency and delivering “commercial excellence.”
Rami Baitiéh, Morrisons’ CEO, said that the creation of this new role reflects the supermarket’s commitment to “embracing the opportunities in data and AI at pace, with focus and in the right way.”
He added that Ghasempour, who will join the business on 01 Oct 2026, is “a recognised expert in the field, with hands-on experience of unlocking the potential of technology to deliver innovative new solutions that serve customers, empower colleagues and deliver business impact.”
Speaking of his upcoming appointment, Ghasempour added: “I’m excited about joining Morrisons and building the team that will help the business make effective and responsible use of AI in the years ahead, to deliver real benefits for customers and colleagues.”
Earlier this year, Ghasempour was recognised in the Retail Disruptors Report from Retail Insider and the Retail Technology Show. He made the top ten within the 2026 honourees for his role in spearheading Kingfisher’s AI strategy across the B&Q, Screwfix, Castorama and Brico Dépôt brands.
