Aldi will invest £370million this year as it targets opening 40 new stores across the UK.

The programme, which includes new locations in Southam, Hastings and Amersham, is part of Aldi’s £1.6billion two-year investment programme which supports its long-term ambition of operating 1,500 stores nationwide.

This latest commitment follows a busy new store opening programme in 2025, underpinning its “unwavering commitment to make high-quality, affordable groceries accessible to everybody,” according to Giles Hurley, Aldi’s CEO.

“We recognise that there are still areas without an Aldi store, so our expansion plans for 2026 are designed to address some of these gaps,” Hurley added. “We’ve always believed that access to high-quality affordable food is a right, not a privilege, and that’s why it’s our mission to make this a reality for customers.”

The supermarket recently released figures which suggested families in more than 200 UK towns are paying up to £2,437 more a year on groceries due to a lack of access to an Aldi store.
