Just Eat has launched a new AI-powered voice assistant across its iOS and Android apps, designed to simplify ordering and reduce decision fatigue by allowing customers to place orders through natural conversation rather than scrolling through menus.

Rolling out first in the UK ahead of a wider international launch, the AI Voice Assistant enables users to bypass traditional search and menu navigation, instead speaking freely about what they want. The assistant then interprets intent to recommend relevant restaurants, cuisines and products – spanning not just food, but also pharmacy, beauty and electrical items available on the platform.

The move is aimed at tackling “choice overload” created by Just Eat’s network of more than 100,000 partners. The company said the assistant acts as a personalised “delivery concierge”, helping customers discover options more quickly and confidently, even when requests are loosely phrased or informal.

Built using the latest conversational AI technology, the assistant can understand a wide range of spoken inputs, from precise orders to exploratory prompts, and is capable of operating in dozens of languages. Its launch reflects the growing consumer adoption of voice-based interaction.

The rollout follows several weeks of trials, during which Just Eat reported steadily increasing usage and a significantly higher conversion rate among customers using the voice assistant compared to those ordering via traditional methods.

The AI Voice Assistant is integrated with Just Eat’s existing chat functionality, creating a blended experience that allows users to switch seamlessly between voice and touch. The company said this approach improves convenience while also enhancing accessibility for customers with limited mobility or visual impairments.

“We are always innovating and continually focused on leveraging technology to improve the ordering journey for our millions of customers. This custom-built conversational assistant represents a major step forward, making our service more intuitive and accessible,” commented Mert Öztekin, Chief Technology Officer at Just Eat.

“We are harnessing the power of AI to empower everyday convenience across our entire network. From intuitive customer personalisation and partner success to smarter logistics, we are embedding automation into every interaction to deliver a seamless, efficient journey that creates real value for everyone,” added Mert Öztekin.
