Expanding its global reach, M&S Food is headed for the Southern Hemisphere as its partners with Australia’s leading supermarket, Coles, to bring its grocery goods to Aussie customers Down Under.

The M&S x Coles tie-up follows the launch of M&S’ first fashion wholesale partnership with Australian department store, David Jones, earlier this year.

The collaboration with Coles will be the first time M&S groceries have been sold in-store in Australia, and seeks to build on the success of the M&S Food wholesale partnership with Target in the U.S., where the retailer now sells 50,000+ individual bags of Percy Pigs a week.

From Wed 19 Nov, Coles stores across Australia will stock a selection of M&S Food goods including Percy Pigs, with customers also able to shop online through Coles’ Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) in Melbourne and Sydney. From next year, the range will expand to over 200 products, offering Aussie shoppers even more supermarket staples from the British retailer.

“With consistent growth in Food in the UK business and strong brand momentum as the UK’s most trusted retailer, there is now so much opportunity for us to grow our business globally,” said Mark Lemming, MD of International at M&S.

“Having taken our first steps in Australia earlier this year in Fashion, we’re delighted to partner with Coles, [which] shares our values of quality food,” Lemming added.

Anna Croft, CCO at Coles, said that the partnership is all about “delivering quality, innovation and trusted value,” adding that by launching pre-Christmas, it will offer Coles’ shoppers more reasons to choose the supermarket for their festive shopping.
