Asda has signed a new multi-year preferred partnership agreement with Uber Direct, Uber’s white-label delivery service, to expand the number of locations offering delivery in as little as one hour.
Uber Direct and Asda have partnered since 2021, when the grocery retailer first launched its on-demand proposition. Since then, Asda has built one of the largest same-day delivery offerings in the market, making rapid fulfilment a key pillar of its online strategy.
The extended partnership will broaden the availability of Asda’s Express Delivery service, powered by Uber Direct’s courier network – the same network used by Uber Eats. This will enable Asda to fulfil large basket orders nationwide, allowing customers to use the on-demand offering for their weekly grocery shop.
The service initially launched across 300 superstores, and was expanded to 10 new locations in the second half of this year. Further rollout is planned for 2026.
This agreement marks the continuing rise in the strategic importance of retailer-owned rapid delivery services. In the UK, on-demand delivery currently accounts for almost 10% of online grocery sales, a figure expected to rise significantly by the end of the decade, according to a study by Retail Economics and Uber Direct.
Barney Burgess, VP of Online at Asda, said: “Express Delivery has proven particularly popular with our customers, enabling them to have their everyday essentials delivered within hours of placing an order. Uber Direct’s strong performance and reliable service has been vital in helping us to grow the service to date. We are excited to continue growing our partnership with Uber Direct and to keep delivering an exceptional and convenient service to our customers.”
Caroline Varga, Regional Manager, Uber Direct EMEA, commented: “It’s been incredibly exciting to be part of Asda’s growth journey these last few years, and we look forward to building an even closer relationship. This deal is a testament not just to the strength and competitive advantage provided by our white-label delivery service, but also a reflection of the success we’ve seen through the wider Uber partnership, across both the Uber Eats and Uber Direct platforms.”
Asda has also reported strong performance on the Uber Eats platform, having recently onboarded Asda Express convenience stores, which continue to outperform the wider convenience market based on Q2 2025 results.
