YEEP! has launched the country’s first and largest solar-powered parcel locker network, with over 700 units already live across the UK.
As part of its partnership with DPD – which will see 8,000 new lockers added over the next five years – YEEP! says it is expanding its network of next-generation technology to make parcel lockers a reliable, sustainable alternative to home deliveries.
The solar-powered lockers are completely plug-free, requiring no mains connection or groundwork. The units are powered by integrated solar panels and long-life rechargeable batteries that that remove the need for replacement, reducing maintenance costs and extending their lifespan.
“By harnessing solar power, we’ve created lockers that are not only convenient and sustainable, but truly self-sufficient, offering the same fast, flexible service for users while being completely hassle-free for hosts,” said Noel Shapton, co-founder and CEO of YEEP!
Locker hosts benefit from guaranteed annual income and increased footfall, while customers can access a secure, 24/7 delivery option that reduces missed parcels and cuts emissions by consolidating multiple drop-offs into one convenient location.
“Solar power is the next major step in building a future-proof locker network, and we’re proud to be pioneering it in the U.K.,” added Shapton. “We’ve already proven that battery-powered lockers can drive footfall and simplify deliveries – now we’re proving they can do it while running entirely on renewable energy.”
