Aldi aims to expand its parcel lockers to over 600 UK locations by the end of 2025 as part of its ongoing partnership with InPost, as the retailer looks to enhance convenience for customers.
“Convenience and efficiency is important to our shoppers, which is why we’re continuing to roll out InPost lockers to as many of our stores as possible,” said Jonathan Neale, MD of National Real Estate at Aldi UK.
Aldi’s existing InPost locker network already allows customers to collect and return online orders at 536 of its UK stores. By installing additional locker locations, the discounter hopes to drive up footfall and encourage store visits as consumers combine parcel pick-ups with their weekly food shop.
Neil Kuschel, CEO at InPost UK, added that the move would “create a more convenient, cost-effective and sustainable way for shoppers to manage their parcels.”
Research from InPost and Retail Economics revealed that demand for speed and convenience has seen out-of-home (OOH) delivery adoption soar. Last year, 87million outbound deliveries – representing 7% of all online orders – were made to lockers, while 28million parcels were returned at pick-up drop-off (PUDO) locations, making up 12% of all online returns.
As demand for locker deliveries continues to grow, retailers are accelerating their deployment of OOH delivery options.
Earlier this year, InPost announced it had surpasses a major milestone of installing 1,000 locker locations at Tesco, while its also teamed up with ASOS to offer next-day OOH delivery services, allowing ASOS customers to pick-up orders across its network of over 16,000 UK lockers and parcel shops.
