eBay has expanded its authentication programme to cover pre-loved apparel, shoes and accessories sold on the platform in the UK.
The marketplace already authenticates luxury watches, handbags, sneakers and jewellery. eBay says the new expansion represents a “significant milestone” in building consumer trust, with every eligible item verified by expert authenticators, giving shoppers “full-look confidence from head-to-toe.”
“Trust is one of the biggest hurdles in pre-loved fashion. Expanding the authenticity guarantee to clothing gives people the confidence to buy the styles they love, knowing every item has been verified by experts. With whole-look authentication now possible, our goal is to make pre-loved fashion a natural first choice.”

When an eligible item is sold, it’s sent to eBay’s UK authentication centre, where specialist authenticators check it against brand-specific criteria. If the item passes, it’s sent on to the buyer with a tracked delivery and a unique QR-enabled authentication card. Authentication is free for the buyer, with no additional fees.
This expansion means eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee now spans select brands across five fashion and luxury categories, including sneakers (£100+), watches (£1500+), handbags and accessories, jewellery (£500+) and apparel, shoes and accessories (£200+).
