Community-powered fashion resale marketplace, Depop, has named Peter Semple as its new permanent CEO as it looks to accelerate its mission to make fashion circular.

Semple will step into the role from 01 August 2025, after spending six years at Depop as its Chief Marketing Officer and, most recently, during his tenure as Interim CEO.

Depop said Semple’s “deep understanding” of its mission and community and his “passion for driving positive change” will support its efforts in continuing to make fashion more circular and enhance sustainability within the sector.

“As a leading resale platform, Depop is at the heart of the circular fashion movement and has seen remarkable momentum in recent years,” said Josh Silverman, CEO of Depop-owner, Etsy. He added that Semple “brings a strong understanding of Depop’s position in culture and resale, and we couldn’t be more confident in his vision for the future.”

“During Peter’s time as Interim CEO, he demonstrated not only a proven ability to lead and inspire teams, but showed his dedication to the Depop mission and its community.”

Commenting on his appointment, Semple added: “I’m excited to permanently step into the CEO role and lead the business through this next phase of growth.”

Last month, Depop announced its partnership with Photoroom to bring professional-grade, AI-powered photo editing directly into the Depop seller experience. It allows sellers to use AI to enhance product images without leaving the app, boosting the quality of their visuals to improve sales, while saving time by making listings faster.

“We’re proud to be the first fashion resale marketplace to partner with Photoroom, enabling sellers to quickly create high-quality product shots that help their listings stand out,” Sonia Biddle, Chief Product Officer at Depop, said.
