Marks & Spencer (M&S) will expand its global reach, partnering exclusively with Australian premium department store, David Jones, to bring its fashion collections to customers “Down Under.”

The move is M&S’ first international Fashion wholesale partnership, following the success of its U.S. wholesale deal with Target for its Food business, and will see David Jones offer a selection of M&S’ bestselling clothing in-store and online.

M&S said the partnership reflected “a shared set of values surrounding quality, innovation and trust,” and will offer the retailer a platform to reach over 5million customers that shop with David Jones in Australia every year. It will also build on a growing level of brand awareness, with over half of the Australian population already familiar with M&S.

Mark Lemming, MD of International at M&S, said it would “focus on offering the magic of M&S to customers across the world.” He added that M&S’ “consistent growth and strong brand momentum” offered “much opportunity” to grow the brand and the business globally.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Marks & Spencer to David Jones, introducing one of Britain’s most iconic retailers to our customers,” said Bridget Veals, Executive GM of Womenswear at David Jones. “The arrival of M&S marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter as we continue to curate a world-class portfolio of brands that deliver elevated everyday essentials and exceptional value.”

The long-term ambition for M&S International is to build a global omnichannel business, using the expertise and infrastructure of strategic franchise partners in established markets, working with leading marketplaces to drive online growth and securing new opportunities in wholesale.
