Lidl will add a new self-scanning feature to its loyalty app, Lidl Plus, designed to offer customers faster and more flexible ways to shop as part of its latest investment in digitalising in-store experiences.

Launching in a trail across four stores in September 2025, the integration allows customers to scan products, track their spending and see savings in real-time within the Lidl Plus app. Once customers have completed their shop, they will then be able to pay, quickly and conveniently, at Lidl‘s self-checkout terminals.

“This marks a significant leap forward in our digital evolution. Integrated into Lidl Plus, it’s designed to offer customers a smarter, faster, and more flexible way to shop,” Ryan McDonnell, CEO of Lidl GB, said.

Following the four-store trial, the discounter plans a phased roll out of the self-scanning feature next year.

McDonnell added that Lidl is “investing heavily in technologies that simplify everyday life, offering customers different options to suit their shopping preferences,” giving consumers greater choice and control over how they shop in-store.

This latest innovation follows Lidl GB’s pilot of its Click, Reserve & Collect service through Lidl Plus earlier this year, along with the rollout of self-checkouts across its UK stores, as the discounter’s continues to invest in evolving the customer journey through smart, scalable technology.
