Currys will roll out Auror’s crime reporting tool across all its UK&I stores to enhance store safety for staff and customers, while reducing shoplifting and retail crime incidents.

The move follows a 12-week trial, which the retailer conducted across two regions. The pilot helped identify 10 repeat offenders, resulting in 3 arrests, whilst preventing stock losses equating to £20k worth of product.

Powered by Auror’s software, the crime reporting tool will improve accuracy and speed of recording instances of retail theft and abuse towards staff. It allows stores to easily record information about crimes and the offenders, which are then synchronised with other incidents nationwide as part of a national retail crime database.

As a result, store colleagues are better informed about current threats, while law enforcement has more comprehensive information to build cases, increasing safety for both colleagues and customers.

This initiative prevents silos in crime and theft reporting, ensuring a streamlined and secure process. Store teams are encouraged to include police or crime reference numbers when logging reports and provide detailed descriptions and images to enhance intelligence linking and pattern identification.

“The rollout of the Auror platform across all our UK&I stores marks another important step in our commitment to making our stores a safer place to work and shop,” Lindsay Haselhurst, Chief Operating Officer at Currys, said.

“This technology has already helped us identify repeat offenders, prevent stock loss, and support police investigations more effectively. By transforming how we capture and share intelligence, we’re building a smarter, faster and more unified approach to tackling retail crime.”

“Auror’s software has modernised the crime reporting process for retailers, helping them to identify the repeat offenders and better collaborate with law enforcement to keep their stores and communities safe,” Nick McDonnell, Senior Director Trust & Safety at Auror, commented.

“Retail crime is not victimless – it’s often violent, threatening and organised. It impacts our communities, our frontline workers and robs our high-streets and town centres of their vibrancy. We’re proud to support Currys in improving colleague safety and making their stores and communities safer,” McDonnell added.

The roll out of the crime reporting tool follows Currys’ largest annual investment in store safety measures, which was announced earlier this year. Since then Currys has seen a -58% reduction in reported aggressive thefts compared to the year before.
