Currys has announced an extension to its Cash for Trash initiative, which aims to make it easier for customers to recycle unwanted tech.
Cash for Trash is a key part of Currys’ sustainability mission to give tech a longer life. Consumer electronic items are collected by Currys and then either repaired, refurbished, harvested for parts or responsibly recycled.
The extension to the scheme means customers dropping off old electricals at any Currys UK store will receive at least a £10 voucher towards a £50 minimum spend – double the usual reward – between 11 June and 08 July 2025.
“This not only incentivises customers to recycle old tech, but also helps tackle the growing e-waste crisis in the UK,” Paula Coughlan, Chief People, Communications and Sustainability Officer at Currys, said.
“We’re proud to be helping customers save, while making sure their unwanted tech is processed responsibly. It’s better for us, better for customers and better for the planet to help keep tech in the hands of the people that need it for as long as possible”
Paula Coughlan, Chief People, Comms & Sustainability Officer, Currys
Currys is now the UK’s #1 retail recycler of e-waste, having collected 1.7million items of tech for recycling last year, helping to keep old consumer electronics out of landfill.
Currys’ repair and recycling operation in Nottingham is also one of Europe’s largest tech repair centres, helping to address e-waste recycling in the UK, which lags behind other EU countries. According to data from the UN’s Global E-Waste Monitor, just 30% of e-waste generated by the UK is recycled, compared to 74% in Norway and 59% in Holland.
