Matalan has extended its partnership with Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions to enhance in-store experiences and make shopping faster, smoother and more connected across its sales channels.
As well as upgrading ~1,800 in-store devices to Toshiba’s latest hardware, Matalan will become the first UK retailer to implement Tobisha’s VisualStore Commerce Platform. This allows the retailer’s IT teams to quickly and independently implement new point-of-sale (POS) functionality, with store teams able to access self-enablement tools to update the POS without relying on third-party support.
Everyday transactions – from loyalty redemption, promotions and click & collect – can now be handled more efficiently and with more flexibility, giving colleagues greater control over how retail services are delivered in-store.
“Our software proposition empowers retailers with tools to better serve their customers,” Martin Ward, Head of Software UK&I at Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, commented. “Enabling retailers to manage and update capabilities independently, with no ongoing costs, is the future of retail technology, and we’re thrilled to lead this shift.”
“We’re delighted to be expanding our partnership with Toshiba, who share our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that improve the experience for both customers and colleagues,” Matalan’s Director of IT & Transformation, Chris Salkeld, said. “We’re always trying to find new ways to serve our customers better and look forward to rolling out the VisualStore platform across our stores.”
With implementation workshops already complete, pilot deployment is set to begin in late Summer 2025 with store-wide roll-out completion aimed for Spring 2026.
