Parcel delivery company, DPD, has partnered with Deus Robotics to create an AI-powered, end-to-end robotic warehouse automation solution.
Freeing human warehouse workers for high-level tasks
The solution includes custom-built AI-powered software which operates warehouse robots, a cross-platform web application, bespokely designed transportation cages and Deus Robotics’ ‘Rack Robots’.
The Rack Robots come with obstacle-detecting technology, increasing productivity by up to 5x and can transport racks weighing up to 1,100lbs.
With the robots picking up and autonomously transporting goods within the warehouse, human warehouse operatives can focus on high-level and value-add tasks as well as reducing the amount of physically demanding work they need to complete.
Automation accelerates DPD’s Net Zero goals
Deus Robotics was selected as a finalist in DPD’s EcoLaunchpad programme, which pilots tech in live DPD environments.
Following the successful trial, DPD will deploy the soution in its London Docklands sortation centre. The move will support DPD’s sustainability goal of reaching Net Zero by 2040.
“We created EcoLaunchpad to find global innovators that can help us develop the solutions to power our journey to Net Zero,” Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications & Sustainability at DPD Group UK, commented.
“We have to challenge ourselves on every aspect of the operation and think about technologies that aren’t currently widely adopted or sitting ‘on the shelf’ already. By working side by side with the innovators, we hope to solve more of the problems, more quickly.”
