UK consumer spending for Mother’s Day 2025 is expected to reach £2.4 billion this year, a +5% increase from 2024, according to the latest predictions from GlobalData.

In its Mother’s Day Intentions Report 2025 it revealed that the proportion of UK consumers planning to purchase at least one gift for Mother’s Day this year has risen to 56%, a almost +3 percentage point rise on last year, with consumers planning to spend £17.43 more on gifts for Mums versus 2024.

On average, each shopper will spend a total of £125.30, with categories including clothing, jewellery and health & beauty among the most popular gifting items. Next reported earlier this week it had experienced a spike in searches for beauty offerings, with ‘mothers day beauty box’ searches rising by +1347% in the past week, while beauty retailers, including Lookfantastic, launched Mother’s Day beauty bundles to capitalise on beauty gifting around the occassion.

“Retailers should offer personalised gifting options, including customised clothing, bespoke jewellery pieces and curated beauty gift sets. Providing unique and thoughtful gifts will appeal to the customers looking to make a special gesture on Mother’s Day.”

However, despite the increased planned spend for Mother’s Day, Gen Z were the most likely demographic to believe that retailers didn’t offer enough gift inspiration around the event (63%). This, GlobalData suggests requires retailer to consider how they merchandise gifts across their sales channels, such as TikTok Shop, in order to make their Mother’s Day gifting offers more discoverable for younger cohorts of consumers.

“Retailers must engage with Gen Z shoppers on key social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to promote affordable Mother’s Day gift ideas, offering exclusive discounts and engaging content to attract budget-conscious shoppers. Next-day delivery options will be a significant draw for this age group. Given that 63.8% of Gen Z shoppers agree they ‘tend to leave Mother’s Day shopping until the very last minute’ online retailers offering expedited delivery stand to benefit the most from the expenditure ahead of the event,” Simpson-Gould concluded.
